Rachel was hired to design three new single sided fliers for the Foundation Communities Resident Manual. The resident manual is comprised of six fliers that are placed in a unit before new residents move in. The manual is intended to educate new residents about their new home and its focus on ecofriendly living. The original set of four fliers was designed by an Austin firm called EcoRise. Connections Education hosts an annual marketing conference to bring together their marketing team with liaisons for each state and school. Each year, the conference is designed around a new theme. The theme for 2015 was comic book superheroes. Rachel was asked to design templates, posters and other collateral for the conference highlighting the theme and CE brands. Rachel came up with the idea to represent each of the CE brands—Connections Education, Connections Academy, International Connections Academy, Nexus Academy, Great Lakes Cyber Academy—with its own superhero. She illustrated this superhero team and designed the backgrounds to mimic classic superhero comic books....[more]
The Lakeline Station Learning Center was designed and built to achieve Petal Certification under the Living Building Challenge. Rachel was tasked with designing a series of interior and exterior signs, a brochure, and a slideshow presentation to teach visitors and occupants about the project and highlight how the center meets the ultrasustainable building standards of the Living Building Challenge....[more]

Rachel’s sister, Dana, and her now husband, Trevor, asked Rachel to design their wedding invitations. Dana and Trevor loved the farmhouse chic look and wanted that to be the design inspiration for their wedding and invitations. In order to print the invitations, Rachel ordered the paper and envelopes from a wholesaler and worked with a local Austin screen-printing shop.
Rachel wanted to share her love for making friendship bracelets with her neices and nephews. She made each of them a custom bracelet making kit including a variety of string and a printed guide with step by step illustrated instructions on how to make a number of different bracelets. Rachel created a companion webpage with a PDF copy of the same guide as well as video tutorials for each bracelet.
Rachel was asked by the State Relations team to design a 1-page document (front and back) to visually and succinctly highlight the successes and improvements of the Connections Academy (CA) schools, particularly in comparison to their states overall. The 1-pager needed to be customizable for each CA school and would need to be updated each year when new numbers were published. The intended purpose was to distribute the 1-pagers to state and local legislators in order to advocate for the continued support of CA in that state....[more]

These documents were intended for use by clients, new employees and contractors. The purpose of these process diagrams was to simplify the detailed written process, visually communicate the various steps and parties involved, identify the places where reviews and approvals needed to take place, and set expectations for timeline....[more]

The Virtual Digital Scale is an interactive tool designed and built by the Connections Academy multimedia team to help students complete lessons on mass and volume. Students can select from various containers, zero the weight, add materials to measure, and add additional containers or materials, just as they might on a physical digital scale. Rachel worked on the user interface, designed the skin, and illustrated the scale and the majority of the containers and materials. The client's artistic direction was to provide photorealistic illustrations....[more]
After completing their first full year of operations, Connections Education conducted a survey of all Nexus Academy Schools to gain input from students and staff on the space design, equipment and furniture, and safety and security features. Rachel was tasked with creating a report from the raw survey results that visually communicated the findings for review by company executives. The final report was 203 pages and contained 8 sections: the combined results as well as a section for each school. Each section included visualizations of all the survey questions and responses as well as summaries highlighting the key findings and take-aways that Rachel identified when analyzing the data....[more]
